Hmmm…fuel economy and Discovery  …that’s pretty funny. I estimate my 98 with stock tire size is more like 16 or 17 mpg on the high side…you know tail wind down hill blaa blaa blaa. They do drink it back…but I also owned a 2001 Toyota 4Runner & found it to be a guzzler …had to use more RPM’s than I tend to with the Disco.
The prices are dropping & I’m very happy with the all around performance with my Disco..so get one.

I just started keeping track of my mileage on the 99 Disco II.
The last tank was during the bad snow, so tire pressure was down to 28 psi, and about half the time I had geared down into 3rd rather than leave it in drive/overdrive, which helped keep it from getting away on me. As well, there was close to an hour and a half of idling at the ferry docks, and longer than usual warmup times -- all negative factors on mileage. But it still got 15.76 MPG.
I didn't track the first 2 fill ups, but in both cases got about 75 KM more than I did this past fill up, so I'm hoping to see 19 or 20 on gentle highway trips, with tires inflated a bit more.
I'll keep you posted.

Yeh, my '97 Disco was not the worst V8 for mileage, average 17 mpg around town, but was able to do some astounding runs to Oregon and California that saw 22-24mpg. I once drove out to Hope loaded with four people and gear following my friend's Nissan pick-up V6 with one passenger and his gear. We left with full tanks from the same gas station and both filled up with $14 worth of gas at the next stop. Not bad I thought.

The average mile per gallon the last time I checked was 18 miles.
With new tires that have a lower rolling resistance.
The Green Lake trip I did with the club, Dave's IIa had to fill up at the Husky station in Cashe Creek. Dave put $10 dollars more than I did starting from Wathcome Road. Average speed was 90 to 100KM.
Any speed over 140km you can see the fuel gage move..LOL!!
