Whipsaw!

#1 Post by Doc Tari » Thu May 06, 2010 12:15 am

It's May and that means it's time to attempt Whipsaw on the Victoria Day long weekend again! Yeah, there will probably be "a little" snow but that's the whole point, we want to try to be the first group through for the season!

The plan is to camp along the forest service road on the Highway 3 side of the trail on Friday evening. The thought is that since that side of the trail is south facing, we may be able to get further before hitting too much snow. I'm planning to bring my sand ladders, anyone have some they can bring?

So who's in? Kris any way to talk you out of going to the ABFM? Bill, has the dentist fixed your chipped tooth? Shawn, any word from Bawlzach? I think a few large, smelly Germans may show up as well.

Post up people!

Hi Pete,

I'll be there with a trunk of spares. Best I can do is chains ropes and a winch. May be a shovel or two. Might have a seat open if someone wants to come out for the trip.

I'd love to go (with Rudy) but alas it is the annual "Redneck Rampage" weekend where I get to show all those Bronco's, Yota's and Jeeps what a real 4x4 can do.

KRIS will be way to busy polishing up his truck for the ABFM I'm sure!

Take lots of pics.

Cheers,

Glen, sounds great, look forward to seeing how the Disco performs with the new diesel. If you need any parts you don't bring as spares, just steal them off Dixon's diesel Disco.

Bill, too bad for us, I guess you're just in too much demand. We'll have to book you earlier next time. Be sure to smudge Kris' professional detailing job before the judging takes place. So, is the tooth situation sorted? If not, you can use Dave F.'s tooth brush, he won't need it...

Dave, be sure to take plenty of beer but leave the tooth brush at home...

Ray, waffle boards would be good. Are you coming wheeled or tracked?

So far we have:

Andy D.
Shawn D. (Andy D.'s slightly older but better looking brother)
Glen B.
Ray H.
Dixon S.
Kris (if we can talk him out of the ABFM)
Pete
2-3 stinky Germans

Yes Pete, new crown and pinion, bearings, seals and yoke finally installed in the front. Should be good to go for the summer now.

First night campsite

Hi guys

One of the stinky Germans here...

Just wondering if anyone has decided on the first night's camp site yet.

If not, there is a good site on the left side of the road by the river a few kilometers in on the Whipsaw FSR.

Is there a meeting spot decided on yet?
Where is everyone planning to leave?

Hey Paul,

I took friday off and Im hoping to leave around noonish but have to wait for Dixon to arrive from the island so who knows.
As far as camp site goes I don't think we have any plans , most likely I'll drive as far as the snow lets me and break camp there then wait for the rest to arrive.

Others will most likely meet in abb after work but I can let you know after out meeting this Thursday.

I will come up Saturday morning with two of the boys, so I guess we will just head up the road and call you on VHF to see how far along you are.

Hey Kris

Sounds good.

I think Alex is off mid day and wants to leave around 3. So I guess we'll see you there somewhere.

Whipsaw - first run of the year...

#12 Post by ANDYD » Wed May 19, 2010 6:01 pm

Ray,

Dont forget to start at the right end of the trail this time

We are starting at the Whipsaw creek end, off Highway #3 before you get to Princeton.

We will confirm departure times at the meeting tomorrow,

Andy

Glen/Shawn,
Have you decided what your plans are for heading to the Whipsaw, Friday afternoon, evening, Saturday morning, etc?

Glen, are you going to meeting tonight?

Cheers,
Pete

I will miss the meeting tonight, sorry. I spent the whole day at Rovertech yesterday, so I better do some work today.

Please drop a note with whatever trip details get decided. I assume that the basic plan (assuming of course that mother nature and the snow pack decide to cooperate) will be that we go up Saturday morning (I think that on Friday you guys won't head too far in? Just in case stragglers get lost en-route trying to catch up...) and then we will exit at Coalmont on Monday afternoon.

I wont bring a tent this time but I will bring my giant tarp, big enough to cover the entire Loadstone campsite - just in case it pours on us.

I also have a spare set of chains that will fit between a 29 to 31 inch tire if anyone is wanting to go but reluctant due to a lack of chains. They are the set from my Ford, but I could loan em out for the weekend if someone is stuck.

I will be going on wheels unless a friendly unimog wants to piggy-back us to the trail-head.

HI Pete,

as discussed at the parking lot meeting last night things look good for catching up with you this afternoon out in Langley around 16:00 'ish. Had some over heat trouble last night on the way home.

So I've pulled the AC rad and kept the fans in place. See if that helps. This bush bumper seems to be blocking to much air at highway speeds and gets into the high 90's and low 100's 'C even slowing to 80kph in 4th @ 2500. So that is not great. The stock plastic jobbie works fine. Noo nie noo things to doooo......

Will find out in the next few hours with some runs up the hill in North Van if she's sorted.

I can probably meet up with you guys as you drive up Hwy 3. What time do you think you will be departing from Hope?

We had a good dusting of snow up here yesterday afternoon above about 3300 ft. Should be fun up on Whipsaw.
