Tire Question - Help Please

#1 Post by rayhyland » Wed Apr 14, 2010 4:16 pm

Hi Folks,

I am looking for some quiet highway tires to use for long trips. The challenge is the sizing.

Ideally I am looking for around 38 inches outside diameter, although anything from 36-38 inches will be OK.

BUT, I would like to stick to a standard 16 inch rim. Does anyone know of a quiet highway tire that would come in those sizes?

I know if I went to a larger (20 inch) rim I could have many options. But I don't know of anyone making larger rims that would fit a defender.

Any thoughts?

Ray

I doubt it. You could get custom 20" rims made. They will cost, but will be nothing like the cost of a 38" tire.

Out of curiosity, what axles are you running that can handle 38s and still have a Rover bolt pattern? And how are you getting clearance? Are you on portals?
