1990 Range Rover LWB

Has anyone got anything bad to say about subject vehicle? It is siting at a dealers lot for $9800. It has 95000 miles on the clock, not bad for a 15 year old vehicle. 3.9 L v8 auto box. It looks to be in lovely shape at first glance and well taken care of. What should I be looking for and does the price look right?

1995'ish Disco's are starting to command a similar price but compare to what else is around, check the Buy & Sell. If it is good shape then it is a great vehicle. If the suspension bags, or if it suffers from any driveline woes, needs an exhaust system etc. then the costs rapidly go up. I would suggest that you have an honest soul with a familiarity in the product take a look before you shell out, especially if it is on a used car lot.

LWB or SWB

Is it a LWB as a 1990 or a SWB as I didn't think they came as LWB until 1993 with the air suspension and the like.

Hi Derek,
This is around the right price for the age, & milage. 1990 is a good choice because it is before they introduced the Air bag lift suspension (started in 1992) This has proved to be a expensive, fairley unreliable supension system on the 92 - 95 RRovers.
Things to check, ask for a complete one year Air care put on the vehicle, this will confirm that the fuel/ air/ catalyst/ oxygen sensors etc are in good order. Take off the main fuse cover(on the lower dash in front of the drivers seat) & check all fuses are there and are in good order, (its a common way of hiding fault lights by pulling the fuses). After the engines starts, listen for knocking. check for oil in the water resovoir & check for water in the oil filler cap(signs that a head gasket is going or gone, common on overheated aluminium engines).
On start up check for "service engine" light on the dash. The "ABS" light should stay on until a minute or so of driving, then it should go out.
Play around with the AC / heater controls (hard & expensive to repair if not working) Check all directions on the electric seat controls, also front & rear heated windows.
Other well known things to check, rusted out lower edge on tailgate glass frame, check underneath for dings & dents from off-roading, another good sign of abbuse is dents in the rim edges of the alloy wheels.
Look for hard "clonks" when you go into drive from neutral & play around in the low gears also.
When running, hit the brakes hard to stop, the lights on the dash will come on like a Christmas tree if there are problems..
I have a 1991 RR classic, it now has 220k on it (110k when I bought it) & has proved to be very reliable & very capable vehicle. I have used it a lot off road, also long highway runs...
Remember, this was a $80,000 when brought new in the 90's so you are getting a lot of vehicle for 9 grand today!
