locks

#1 Post by yuppa » Wed Jan 07, 2009 8:56 pm

new problem..

I unlock the rover, it unlocks, cannot open left(driver) side doors..
it opens from the inside..
the lock goes up, but unable to open using handle..

this is a new problem and appeared today, it happened both times i unlocked the rover.. I used the remote to lock it and unlock it again many, many times trying to get the driver door to open..
both times i ended up having to go through the passenger door to open driver side..

any advice is appreciated.

if you take your inside door panel off, you can see a couple of linkages attached to the outside door handle that are adjustable, pop a clip and screw the rod in or out to adjust, cant remember which one. its not the lock its the door handle linkage,
this issue is usually from normal wear on the components.

Door Locks ...

Hi,
This is a common fault on Discoverys and later RR Classic.
Usually means the door lock actuator motor or linkage is at fault.

The best thing to do is remove the door trim panel and take a look inside. Inspect the linkages for wear, (loose, slack movement) check & clean up the actuator connections (can get corroded). Spray everything with a good contact cleaner (or WD40 at a pinch) and give the lock a try.

You should at least get some clicking from the actuator when turning the key, if not the door lock actuator motor probably needs changing.

Good luck, let us know what you find.

X2 what Andy said, had the same prob with my Discovery, you’ll probably find it hard to make any kind of adjustment on what will no doubt be very rusty linkage, but cleaning and bit of lube can work wonders.

My actuator had failed so I pulled it hosed it down with contact cleaner in last ditch attempt to revive it, reinstalled and 7 months later still working fine. :)

Course I probably won’t be able to open any doors when I leave the office today.
