The plan:
Friday - Meet in Keremeos @ 4:00 where Dave Blair will lead the group to the Buckhorn Recreation campsite. If you want to do the Ashnola traverse but can't be there at 4:00, no big deal but you'll need to get to Buckhorn on your own.

Saturday - Complete the Ashnola traverse on Saturday morning and hopefully arrive at Copper Creek by ~ noon. Depart Copper Creek around 1:00 to head up Whipsaw. The Saturday meeting times are approximate because they depend on when the traverse is completed. It will be very helpfulf to know who is planning to meet the group at Copper Creek so we can be sure not to miss anyone that wants to travel with others.

If you can't be at Copper Creek by 1:00 on Saturday, no problem, let us know if you need someone to meet you or make your own way up Whipsaw, dinner isn't until dusk...

If you're doing the Ashnola traverse, it might be a good idea to fuel up in Princeton, on your way to Keremeos. This way, you're good for the tranverse and Whipsaw, and can refuel in Princeton after we exit Whipsaw.

With regard to convoys for the trip out of Vancouver, I'm not going to even attempt coordinating this. I'm only suggesting that if you're looking to hook up with others, you may want to post your intentions.

Clear as mud?

PS: Bill, is the member with the rendezvous question already on the dinner list or do I need to make an addition?

Regards,
Pete

Hi Pete,

Is there still going to be a midday departure from Keromeos?

Cheers,

Hi Pete,
Randy Hay is the one inquiring about Saturday but I have no idea if he is firm about coming.

Midday departure from Keremeos? There was never a midday departure from Keremeos only one at 4:00. Are you getting this confused with a midday departure from Vancouver on Friday?

Pete

Hey Guys so we are coming up for sure but we thought we would be hitting the same entrance as last time but it seems to be in reverse, I have the GPS but some additional instructions would be great. We can't make the 4 pm run but would probably be there at 7 is it worth trying to catch up or heading to the next meeting spot assuming that is at Well Lake?? Is that part of the run OK solo at dusk, even though I am usually on my own anyway, lol... Hope to see you all soon and lets hope the rain tapers off in Vancouver leaving us high and dry. ATB John

John,

We won't be anywhere near the Whipsaw on Friday night. If you are planning on coming up Friday, drive past Princeton to Keremeos. About 4 KM before Keremeos there is a junction with a road to the south, the Ashnola River Road. Turn here. You will shortly go over the bridge. Friday night's camp spot is easy to find... it is 30 KM down this road on the left hand side. We'll try and have a campfire going to ensure latecomers can spot us. This is a high-quality Forest Service Road with no challenges along the way, except perhaps a deer or two. This is the Buckhorn Recreation site.

On Saturday morning we'll start with the off-roading, first doing the Placer-Ashnola Traverse (in reverse) followed by the Whipsaw from Highway 3 south of Princeton.

Unless you want to wait until noonish Saturday to meet up with us at highway 3, you should try and make it to Buckhorn on Friday night.

cheers, Dave

Hi guys,

My Son, Leo, and I are planning on attending, depending on the success of some top secret vehicle upgrades.

Current plan is to leave Norh Vancouver between 1pm and 4pm and head straight to the Buckhorn Rec site, stopping for dinner along the way. If anyone would like to join us on the convoy, let me know.

We'll bring our own vegitarian dinner for Saturday.

See you there.

Thanks,
Don

Don,
Glad to hear you'll make it. There's no need to bring your own vegitarian meal, our 5 star chef has already anticipated this and has you covered.

Pete

Andrew,
You say you're "thinking" about coming... Does this mean I should put you down on the BBQ list? If so, will you be alone or have others with you?

Thanks,
Pete

Friday Departure time ...

#41 Post by ANDYD » Wed Oct 01, 2008 10:16 pm

Hi Guys,
There is a small group meeting at Tim Hortons, Whatcom road exit of h-way 1 at 11am Friday morning. We will be doing slower but steady rate (good for any series trucks!) with a 30min stop in Princeton to stretch legs and refuel.

Please post if you intend on meeting us there so we know to look out for you.
cheers,
Andy

Well, not that anyone's keeping track, but it looks like I will be desperately trying to make the Keremeos 4pm departure...my other party bailed out, leaving me with the capacity to leave directly from UBC after class! Sadly, class ends at 12:50, so I'll be boogying along the highway to try and catch up to y'all en route.

Hi Andrew,
Great, we will look out for you. Channel 4 on CB if you have one.

D fritter, no worries, I'm sure you will catch up with us along the way or for sure when we stop for a break in Princeton.

cheers,
Andy

Sadly, that's looking pretty unlikely. My Spanish midterm was bumped up from Wednesday to Monday, and realistically, I don't trust myself to get enough studying in while on the trail. So, I'm going to extremely lame and do the last minute bail-out. If there's any way I can make it up to those that planned all this, just lemme know... I feel terrible having to cancel knowing how much work goes into an event like this. Beer peace offering?

Hope you guys have fun, stay safe, and don't break parts.

Hi Guys,

It looks like I may have to meet up with you on Saturday due to work comittments today.

If I don't show up at Buckhorn tonight or during the wee hours, don't wait for me in the morning.

If all goes well hope to meet the group at copper creek between Noon and 1PM.

THanks,
Don

#48 Post by Revor » Fri Oct 03, 2008 6:03 pm

Hi guys,

There seems to be lots of comments on this thread but I can't seem to find at what time we are meeting on Saturday.

If anyone knows please respond...

Thanks!

Hi Ryan,
The meeting times and locations are in the postings. In any case, if you're coming on Saturday to Whipsaw only, the meeting point is the Copper Creek turn out off Highway 3 between noon and 1:00pm. The coordinates are posted if you've got a GPS and don't know where Copper Creek is.

Regards,
Pete
