Container From the UK- Sorry Guys the shipping company has decided no extra Items in the Container :(

#1 Post by DarrenGH » Fri Feb 26, 2021 8:07 am

Hey Guys,
Sorry everyone, the shipping company has decided they won't allow loose items in the Landie or container so I will have to rescind my offer of free shipping....

I’d be interested in bringing over a couple sets of series soft top frames. I will PM you to discuss.

I am also interested, I have a 300TDi engine, and an Exmoor (seats/hoods) order.

Please phone or send me an PM to get dates and places arranged.

Cheers,

Hi! Out of curiosity, how much (ballpark) did it cost to bring your landy/container over? :bounce:
I've been dreaming of bringing over an RRC.

On another note, based on the response you got it sounds like some people should pool together to pay for a container to get shipped from the UK!

I think the problem is having someone on the other side to collect all the various crap we want to buy, pack it nicely, seal it up, etc.

Then when it gets here someone needs to have a sea can on their driveway while we all make our way to pick up whatever's in there.

... that being said, if someone can help with those sticking points, I have money to spend to help get one here (provided I can put a chassis (maybe bulkhead?)) and other things in it.

You can get stuff shipped from england with out much issue. I just brought in a TD5, the person I bought it from packed it up, shipper collected, put in container, and it arrived at a sufferance warehouse on Annacis island. Was quite a painless experience. Shipping is calulated on weight and dimension for the smaller stuff.

x2 above

Sadly you can’t just chuck stuff in a container and send it over, especially if it’s just come off eBay or some guy who’s selling Land Rover bits. Same goes for just “getting together” on a container - it doesn’t quite work that way. Commercial invoices, EORI numbers and sometimes even power of attorney for each vendor depending on the shipper. In effect “you” are not exporting the goods, the vendor is...even if you arrange the freight.

Very quickly you could find yourself having to answer questions asked by CBSA, or you might have a customs broker who’s actually doing their job and needing proper commercial invoices for everything being brought over! It’s much easier to get a company to arrange a pallet, have it all itemized and invoiced properly, and then ship it LTL to Vancouver.

That said I am surprised you’re being told no loose or extra items. If you get a container it’s yours to fill with what you want. The last container I arranged came with a 90 in it that had a Honda moped stuffed inside and a 110 chassis strapped on top!!

When I imported my Defender 90 from England 3 years ago I had hoped to put a few things inside but it was not allowed. The only thing allowed was the spare tire. I know I wanted the factory Landrover floor mat in the back so had to have it installed before shipping.

I think for many of us the question is, "who does this kind of thing?" All we really know is 'ashcroft r380' or 'hoop set' but when you go to buy these things from the source you have Exmoor putting your stuff in a first class British Airways seat with the soup and a complementary fish course.

As an example, I asked Richards for a shipping quote. They *only* accepted a to-my-door delivery option through, IIRC DHL. The shipping cost was as high as the price for the chassis.

Maybe we should put a sticky thread somewhere or an FAQ for those of us that don't know what we don't know?

Your responses have been, I hope you know, very much appreciated!

if anyone wants proof of seatosky, here was a photos of it

I definitely recommend getting a broker to deal with the paperwork, it was seamless and they walked me through things when we had issues.
Truck Came
Southampton -> Montreal VIA MV Ottawa Express
Montreal -> Surrey VIA Rail
Surrey -> Langley Via Harbour Link Cargo Services

we had invoices from all our shippers with values and declarations that went on the CBSA B3 and I paid the Taxes directly to the Broker. it was fairly painless, but what I learned from the process is to be patient, and if a group is putting in for one container, have a group representative, so that there is less questioning at the border.
