Re: Wanted: Defender 90 Truck Cab Headliner

If you are looking for Genuine headliner material, I have lots available. It's the Ripple Grey, but instead of the foam backer, it's spun polyester like what was used on the last few years of production. Brand new on the roll.

Re: New toy

The Webasto is controlled by a timer that is probably on the dash. It should run for 15 to 20 minutes before the vehicle is started. It may also have come with a remote fob style starter, but most likely it's just the timer to operate.

I ran OME's with the 2" lift on my NAS 90 for 12 years, never an issue. On the 110, I have the same set up (specific to the 110) and no problems at all.

Re: Replacing window track

If you are talking the black felt (flocked) vertical window channels, you need to pretty much dis-assemble most of the door (including removing the glass, regulator, waist seal, etc. There are 3 or 4 small self tapping screws buried in the rubber track, drag a skinny screwdriver along the track, you...

Re: Purchase suggestions

Along with rust, galvanic corrosion (corrosion where aluminum and steel meet) are things to look for. Look on the ends of the seatbox, where the seatbelt is bolted in place, as well, the brackets that hold the rear seat in. It's not uncommon to see holes corroded through the aluminum. And of course,...

Coolant loss could also be a sign of a cracked block which is common on these. (speaking from previous experience). Thorough pre-purchase inspection from a certified mechanic with experience on these will tell you a lot. At 200,000k, the heads have been done, possibly twice. They use stretch bolts, ...

The rust /corrosion service Rovalution is doing is a product called Dinitrol.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDl6CDjW0KI

After looking at the Krown site, and process, I would say the Dinitrol is about 1000% more comprehensive. The Krown has to be re-applied every year.

Re: gear oil

As you use the overdrive, the gears will wear in and it will get quit down.

I did a 4,000k road trip in the spring just after putting in mine. Long highway driving (Utah and back) did the trick, it's nice and quiet now.

The correct lubricant is essential. I also changed it after the first 5,000k

The body was purchased in the UK, brought over. Can't remember what it was mounted on, I think it was a Series III?

Dave was GREAT to deal with! I can't believe how much money I saved by doing a little research and buying from them. On Tuesday, my 'bundle of joy' arrived. Ashcroft transmissions

The R 380 transmission from my Defender is in pieces on the bench. Cost for just the parts to rebuild is over $4000 (main shaft, synchros, couple gears, bearings, gaskets, etc....) so, to me it makes sense to look at buying a good rebuilt unit. I don't think there is anyone local that just happens t...

Another option is a rooftop tent. We did some camping last summer with our son (at the time he was 10 months). Lots of room, quick and easy to set up,and you can use it on any vehicle. Available through Willie at Offroad Academy here in Vancouver.

I put a K&N in my Defender 3 years ago. It seems to have improved the power and mileage. But then again, couldn't you swear your truck runs smoother after it gets a nice wash inside and out?

If anything, the K&N filters better, and you don't have to keep buying new airfilters whenever it gets dirty.
