Swivel ball goo SIIa

#1 Post by andrewMcF » Mon May 17, 2010 11:04 am

First time I've pulled an axle out of a rover (Series IIa 109 1962) I am aware that the swivel ball is supposed to be full of oil but is there supposed to be oil out past the stub axle and in the hub bearings? when I pulled my hub off it looks like is full of a mix of grease for the bearings and dif oil... is this normal?

Yes. It is really supposed to be just gear oil but some people use hub grease in their hubs and this migrates. The wheel bearings and hub are all one common space so whatever lube you have on one side will eventually mix with what's on the other.
