Thinking of importing...

#1 Post by e.prevost94 » Wed May 16, 2012 4:11 pm

So with due to the outrageous fuel prices, and 11 MPG, I'm going to import a diesel from Japan. I was thinking of importing a diesel P38. Only real problem I can see with one, is sourcing the parts. Anybody know how hard parts would be to source?

Parts are easy to get out of the UK. You just need to be prepared to wait a few days.

Would avoid the diesel P38. That used a BMW engine that was meant for a small sedan. That engine uses an electronic injection pump that has a tendency to get cooked, and is VERY expensive to repair or replace. The Rover diesels are much more appropriate for the size of the vehicle. 200tdi, 300tdi and td5 are all much better engines. Jeremy at Rocky Mountain Parabolics can get parts for all the rover diesels without too much headache and his prices are reasonable.

No good, huh? Too bad. I have a V8 P38, and I really like it, just it's a pig. But I guess if it's not worth it... Any years I should avoid for a disco diesel?
