Last Island Rover Run of the Year Saturday December 30th

#1 Post by island dormy » Tue Dec 12, 2017 6:11 pm

Hi Everyone

The last Island rover run of the year will be Saturday December 30th 2017.

***** UPDATE DEC 18TH 9:09 am. PLEASE READ NEW MEETING PLACE AND TIME *****

Okay sorry the Red Rooster restaurant is closed on the 30th of December. So is our other usual breakfast haunt the Haida way restaurant. So no hearty breakfast before the trip. Sorry again, but its out of my control I am disappointed also.
We will meet instead at the Tim Hortons across from the BC Forest Museum (Duncan) at 9:00 am and leave the parking lot by 9:15 am.
I guess we will head up Mount Provo and try to get over to Mount Sicker and play around up there. It may be snowy up there and we may not get very far, who knows.

Bring the usual gear including lunch, a camera, maybe some recovery gear, something warm to drink, etc. etc. This may be a scratch run so hopefully you received some cut polish and wax for Christmas.

Now this drive is over 2 weeks away and things may change so stay tuned to this channel for any updates.

So whos coming? Do not be afraid of speaking up. Hopefully we can get more than our usual 3 rovers out for a day of exploration.
As always other brands of vehicles are welcome to come along just remember .......back of the pack behind the diesel rovers.

By the way I need a ride if someone has a spare seat. I do not mind riding shotgun.

Hi Victor, I will be there with the 110 so I'll have room for you.

I welded the rear door back together so the truck doesn't rattle as much.

Just asked the wife, and she says its a go. This will be my first run, just bought a 110 and it seems to be reliable enough. I thought of coming on other runs with you guys, but I have only ever had stock D1s, D2s and P38s and did not fancy getting stuck with them. I will probably have a spare second row seat, if anyone needs a lift..

Tony,
Great that you will be out for the first time and will be good to actually meet. Have only spoken to you a couple of times recently about a rebuilt engine for our DII.
Eric.

I'll be there too. I hope nobody minds a gasoline rig along for the day.

One of the benefits of having a diesel truck is if you smell gasoline, you know it isn't you.

A friend of mine called Robin wants to come along in his 300 TDI 90, is this ok? Do you have a rough idea of the route yet?

Hi Tony

Any Rover is allowed to come along (even Freelander's). The more the merrier.

Check the update at the top of the page things have changed a little bit.

Hoping to be there but not sure if I'll make it, dealing with a bad carb and some engine mount problems... I'll give it my best shot though.

My plans have been changed. Ill be working over on the Sunshine Coast Saturday. I won't be on the drive yet again but maybe I'll be able to pay for some upgrades.

Hi Everyone

Okay as of 4:06 pm. Wed. Dec27 the drive is still on.
It is kind of looking like it may again only be 3 vehicles heading out due to work commitments. holidays and broken down Rovers.(That's life)
The conditions up on the hill are not very good and the drive may be very short but at least we can meet up for coffee.

See you guys there............. I had a ride arranged but my ride has broken down. Oliver and Colin also now need rides. Any spare seats?

................... FINAL UPDATE....................

Hello again everyone

Rite now as of Thursday morning Dec 28th it looks like we are down to 2 rovers, Tonys and Robins. There are a few folks coming for coffee but not on the drive.
So normally one of the three regular attendees rovers are equipped with recovery gear, (none of them are coming on this trip), I am hoping Tony or Robin have a tow rope, shovels maybe a chain saw and a real bonus would be a winch on one of the trucks.

See you all at 9:00 am. Saturday Dec 30th at the Tim Hortons across from the BC Forest Museum.

Holy crow, I have bad luck. Seems like every time I come on here and check trips, they are the next day or the same day I've logged on. My bad luck....again.
would love to get stuck in the snow in Jan or Feb if anyone is interested.

Hi Pragsy

Sorry you missed it, I gave over 2.5 weeks notice this time. I can not do much more than that.
However do not feel bad, you did not miss much, with over 256 views we still only got 2 rovers to Tim Hortons for coffee and only one Rover actually went out to play in the snow.

Thanks for the ride Tony your new 110 was a pleasure to ride in, it has to be the quietest diesel I have ever been in.. Colin and I very much enjoyed the morning exploring Mount Provo in the snow.

I think the next event for me will most likely be Founders day in April over on the main land.

Hi everyone, the run was good and it was great to see your new toy Tony. Although it was a bit bouncy in the back.

We got our 110 back on the road this afternoon so I'd like to make it to the next run. Hopefully we get out as a group at least once more before founders day and get stuck in the snow.

Hey gang, sorry I missed it. I was looking forward to actually making it through a run with all four wheels still on the vehicle but I guess I had way too much stuff going on over the holidays to check the site. My bad! Now that I'm back to work I have way more time to visit the website - haha. I'll be up for the next one for sure. Working hard to getting my Lightweight ready for Founder's Day!

Hey Pragsy if you fancy a jaunt down at Horne Lake one of these days let me know... The Series is up and running now and although not road legal, can more than hold it's own on the logging roads.

Cheers

Dave
